Open studio for unfinished work

Book a quiet seat, spread your materials, and use the room as a working atelier — not a lecture hall.

What open studio includes

Open studio is for adults who already know what they want to work on: a charcoal study started at home, an acrylic series, or an oil canvas that needs proper drying space. You get an easel or table, sink access, shared still-life props, and daylight when the weather cooperates.

There is no formal lesson during open hours, though a studio host is usually present to help with setup, ventilation tips, and safe solvent handling. Headphones are welcome if neighbours are sketching in silence. Photography of other people’s work needs their permission first.

Open studio timetable

Day Hours & notes
Tuesday 16:00–19:00 — after foundations; graphite and watercolour welcome
Thursday 16:00–19:00 — after oil block; ventilation ready for solvent work
Friday 15:00–19:00 — longer afternoon for series painters
Saturday 15:00–18:00 — after the weekend intensive clears

Seats are limited. Write to [email protected] with your preferred slot; we confirm within one working day.

What to bring

Bring your own supports, paints, and sketchbooks. We supply easels, basic clips, paper towels, and a communal still-life cupboard with bottles, plaster casts, and fabric. Solvents must be low-odour and labelled. Food stays in the small kitchen nook so paint tables stay clean.

First-time open studio visitors get a five-minute orientation covering sinks, waste jars, and fire extinguisher locations. Regulars can arrive, set up, and work until the session closes. If you need longer storage between visits, ask about the short-term drying rack — it is first-come for active canvases only.

Open studio is not a substitute for classes when you want structured feedback. Many members alternate: one guided evening, one independent afternoon. That rhythm keeps skills moving without filling every calendar square with instruction.
